The Administriation Fedral Aviation (FAA) has a brochure about the safety of the use of sunglasses by the pilots in their planes. The brochure is titled: “Sunglasses for Pilots:. Beyond the Image” in the PDF brochure of the FAA notes that “a pilot eyes are their most important asset sensory,” and that protecting them is a great priority.

The FAA even commissioned a study to determine whether the use, or lack of use of appropriate sunglasses had relation to incidents or accidents. For the time period studied, from 1980 to 1988, the FAA identied six incidents and accidents were directly related to the misuse of research sunglasses.
