The FAA even commissioned a study to determine whether the use, or lack of use of appropriate sunglasses had relation to incidents or accidents. For the time period studied, from 1980 to 1988, the FAA identied six incidents and accidents were directly related to the misuse of research sunglasses.

Further the FAA determined that polarized sunglasses lenses were unsuitable for use due to the fact piltos they sparkle away from glass or metal objects removed. In addition, deformation of the current glass cockpit technology, polarized sunglasses, or even completely block view of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) found in most modern aircraft.
